Snow in Tavaklı is relatively rare and usually very light. Located on the Aegean coast in the Ezine district of Çanakkale, Tavaklı enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, with winters that are cool and rainy rather than cold and snowy. When snow does fall, it is typically for a few hours or at most a day, and it often melts quickly because ground temperatures are not low enough for it to settle for long. Some years, Tavaklı may not see any snow at all, while in other years it may experience one or two brief snowfalls that locals often regard as a pleasant novelty.
The reason snow is uncommon in this region is the moderating effect of the Aegean Sea. Coastal areas warm up more slowly in the winter but also cool down less, keeping temperatures above freezing most of the time. Additionally, the region sits at low altitude and is influenced by mild southerly winds that bring moist, warmer air. As a result, Tavaklı’s winters are generally mild compared to inland parts of Türkiye, and significant snowfall is unusual unless a strong cold front moves down from the north.
