Murat Armutlugöynük was born and raised in Istanbul. His family is originally from Kastamonu. He graduated from an İmam Hatip High School and later from the Faculty of Theology at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University while continuing to serve as the imam of the mosque in Tavaklı Village.
In a traditional Turkish village, the imam plays a role that extends well beyond leading daily prayers. He is responsible for guiding religious services, delivering Friday sermons, and ensuring that the mosque remains an active spiritual centre for the community. He performs important religious duties such as officiating funerals, providing Qur’an education, and supporting villagers during significant life events.
The village imam is also often a key figure in community life. Many residents turn to the imam for advice, spiritual guidance, or help during difficult times. Through charity activities, community events, and educational programmes, an imam contributes to maintaining social harmony and strengthening the cultural fabric of the village. In this way, the imam’s presence is both a religious and social cornerstone in daily village life.
