Utility Services
HALIC ISLETIM

In Tavaklı the electricity is provided by Uludağ Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (UEDAŞ). UEDAŞ is the distribution company responsible for delivering electricity from transmission points to end users in its service area — including the Çanakkale province and thus villages such as Tavaklı. UEDAŞ was formerly part of the national distribution agency but was privatized; since 2010 it operates under private management (now within the group of companies controlled by a holding).

Although electricity is supplied by UEDAŞ, some people refer informally to “Uladag Electric” — perhaps due to local habit or shorthand for UEDAŞ. In other words, there is no separate company called “Uladag Electric”; UEDAŞ is Uludağ Electric Distribution.

Most households in Tavaklı pay their electricity bills by direct debit. For in-person services (e.g. new connections, questions or problems), there is a UEDAŞ office available in the nearby district centre Ezine. Unfortunately I do not have a confirmed full street-address or phone number for that exact local office — UEDAŞ’s publicly listed central contact is: 0224 600 00 00 (head office in Bursa).

I recommend contacting UEDAŞ central number and asking to be directed to the relevant Çanakkale / Ezine-region office or you can call in person to their represented offices on the High Street in Ezine.

Note: Tavaklı village like many rural villages is susceptible to scheduled, and more often than not, un-scheduled electric cuts. If you have a computer or sensitive electronic gadgets then you are advised to purchase a battery backup (UPS unit) and use surge protected extension leads. The electrical supply standards fall short of those in the USA and Europe.

Water Supply

SU PARASI

The drinking water supply for both Tavaklı village and Tavaklı İskelesi is organized and maintained at the village level. However, meter-readings and billing are handled by the water-department of the municipality of Ezine (the “Su Dairesi”). The Ezine water-administration’s office where bills can be paid is located on 22 Eylül Caddesi in Ezine, next to “Çınar Emlak” and beside the “Ezine Köy İdareleri / Mühtarlıklar Derneği.” Currently there is no facility to pay by direct debit.

Generally people do not drink the tap water. Drinking water is available either by bottled water or distribution points where a small charge is made. We have one such distribution point in the village of Tavaklı which is situated by the Berber Shop.

Address: 22 Eylül Caddesi, Ezine, Çanakkale
Their contact telephone number is given as: 0286 618 52 30.

Gas Supply — or Lack Thereof

There is currently no natural-gas supply available in Tavaklı or Tavaklı İskelesi.

As a result, for heating in cold months most residents rely on traditional fuels: logs (with oak logs being considered the best), coal, or “pirina” (a by-product of olive processing — olive-pith briquettes, sold by local factories in the village). Suppliers of wood, coal or pirina can be found in Tavaklı village, and also in Ezine.

What to Know If You’re a Resident (or Moving Here)

  • For electricity issues or new connection, you will deal with UEDAŞ. Even though their main headquarters is not local, they serve the area including Tavaklı.
  • For water billing or meter-reading issues, go to the Su Dairesi office on 22 Eylül Caddesi, Ezine — calling ahead is wise (phone: 0286 618 52 30).
  • Plan for fuel (wood, coal, olive-pith briquettes) for winter heating; gas is not available. Oak logs tend to be considered the best quality for heating.
